Acne
Acne is a common problem for not only teenagers but also for adult women. There are a variety of different acne types that we diagnose and treat. Thankfully, we have many more pharmaceutical options at our disposal to help treat acne and thus improve one's self-esteem as a byproduct of that. One of the main medications used for acne is retinoids which may consist of one of the following: Differin, Retin-A, tretinoin, Ziana, Veltin, Atralin and Tazorac. Oral and topical antibiotics may also be used depending on the severity of the acne and skin type of our patient. Isotretinoin, otherwise known as "Accutane," is still a very good option for treatment of resistant acne.
We offer acne extractions and beta salicylic acid peels to help with the comedonal part of acne. Often this procedure is covered by insurance if we are actively treating your acne. We have also use photodynamic therapy therapeutically though insurance plans still are not including this modality in their coverage options.
Don't buy Pro-Active. Save your money. We can advise you at your office visit as to what cleanser to use as well as any topical products. Prescription products will work much better and likely will end up costing you less money.
Don't pick your acne. If you have a tender acne cystic type lesion appear overnight, please call our office for an acne injection which will help relieve that area within 24 hours.
