Cyst Removal

Cysts are common benign growths that can become irritating or infected depending on the location of the growth. Pilar cysts occur on the scalp and tend to run in families. Epidermoid cysts occur on the body and will not, unfortunately, go away on their own. Excision is usually our preferred treatment modality so we can completely remove the entire cyst sac. If a cyst has become infected, however, we usually are only able to drain it and initiate antibiotics. Often cysts develop due to an ingrown hair or acne lesion but can seem to spontaneously occur.
