cosmetic Mole Removal
Moles are a common normal occurrence for all people though some may acquire many more due to their genetic makeup. Most moles are not harmful but if they occur in a location that can be easily rubbed or irritated, the "nevi" may become sore and require removal. Many men will have moles removed that are in the beard region where they shave. Women tend to have moles removed that may be rubbing on their undergarments.
When removing moles, we suggest shave removal versus complete excision with sutures because cosmetically the skin usually heals much better with that modality. We can perform this procedure at the time of your office visit and are very careful to skillfully remove the part elevated above the skin to give the best cosmetic result. A small depression or recurrence of the mole may occur but we can either offer Fraxel to resurface the skin or remove the mole again. Lasers should never be used to remove a mole.
Sun exposure does cause us to have more moles and freckles. Any brown "freckles" on the face and other sun-exposed areas are just a sign of too much sun damage.
