Nail Disease
Dermatologists are trained to diagnose nail diseases as well as internal diseases that may show signs thru changes in the nail. Fungus of the toenails is one of the most common nail diseases and is usually treated with oral antifungal agents such as Lamisil. We can often diagnose if a person is anemic or has thyroid disease from changes in the structure of the nail. As we age, our nails often thin and become brittle. We have found that supplemental biotin 2.5mg (Appearex) daily can help improve the structure of the nail plate. In general, all false nail treatments can be harmful to the cuticle and make the skin more prone to infection.
