Detect and Treat Actinic Keratosis

You may not be familiar with the term, actinic keratosis, but you should be. It is a pre-cancerous scaly growths that occur on sun exposed areas of the skin. If left untreated, it can transform into squamous cell carcinoma that requires excision to treat and can have a potential to spread to the lymph nodes. This condition is prevalent in Texas because of our high amount of sun exposure.

Southlake Dermatology offers the most advanced technology and treatments to help treat these "AKs."  Often, we can apply a simple chemical peel to the affected area which has great success with much less downtime than the topical creams that are available. Although Effudex, Carac, Aldara and Zyclara are effective for treatment, they leave patients with intense redness that is often painful. We also offer photodynamic therapy (PDT) and were the first in Tarrant County to begin this treatment five years ago.  We get a great response to this for the face and scalp, but highly recommend doing the treatment in winter or spring -- meaning NOW!

Meet Our New Estheticians: Sally and Bethany

We are pleased to introduce Sally Kent, who will be teaming up with Bethany Strickland as our primary estheticians. Sally has been a trainer for a regional laser company and comes with experience in dermatology, as well as in depth knowledge of cosmetic dermatology. Warm, friendly and engaging, Sally will be a great asset for our patients. Bethany, as many of you have met already, comes with over 10 years experience in medical esthetics and has been a big help to us already. We are sad to see Christan depart as she is about to have her first baby - congratulations!  Christan will be helping us part-time,  but we will miss her daily smile!
